In UNLEASH THE WARRIOR, we show you how to optimise and train your self defence strikes, techniques or movements in five simple steps.

This session covers the FRONT KICK. Follow these easy steps:

  1. Start from a distance where you can reach beyond the target with an extended leg by c.30cm by making a small forward step.

  2. Step forward with your base leg in front of your body by making a short, stomping motion step to put all your body weight onto this leg and into a forward momentum.

  3. As you commence the step with the base leg, simultaneously start a very fast upward whipping motion with your kicking leg, moving it into the same centreline as your base leg. The kicking leg knee should reach abdomen height (if possible).

  4. Connect with the target at centre of body (mid-abdomen) with the ball of your foot (toes curled up) and extend the leg as if to penetrate the body and break the spine.

  5. Once fully extended, recoil as fast as you can, maintaining the kicking leg knee high. Place the kicking leg down where you need to tactically (forward to move closer, in line to maintain distance or move to opposite side, sideways or backwards if to move in these directions).
