MASTERCLASS: STRAIGHT FRONT HAND STRIKE by Orjan Pettersen

Each week MASTERCLASS gives you brief but key information on how to optimise a simple Krav Maga strike or technique.

A straight front hand strike is the shortest route at medium range to hit the opponent’s head. Protect your hand by striking open palm, aimed to break the nose.

Optimise the strike by:

Sending the hand and shoulders forward first, elbow low. Avoid stepping first - as lesser mass travelled is quicker, but land forward with the matching leg to regain balance if needed.

Aim a foot’s length beyond the target and recoil on impact as if you’ve touched a burning hot stove to transfer maximum energy into the target.

Breathe out in a single exhale, whether for a single or multiple strikes. Your striking rhythm will match the (slower) breathing rhythm.
