MASTERCLASS PRO | MOVING & SURVIVING A KNIFE ATTACK TO HEAD / UPPER BODY | by Orjan Pettersen

MASTERCLASS PRO takes our Masterclasses to the next level.

Learn how to take the individual self defence techniques and strikes you study in our Masterclass feature and merge them into natural and effective combinations in MASTERCLASS PRO.

Study how you can mix and match different upper and lower body strikes, with different ranges and angles of attack.

In our NEW and EASY format, these are broken down in 10 simple steps for you to train.

This MASTERCLASS PRO covers the defence survival action against a knife attack by MOVING IN KNIFE SURVIVAL MODE and SURVIVING A KNIFE ATTACK TO HEAD / UPPER BODY aimed at anywhere above solar plexus, regardless of direction, angle or blade position when the edged weapon is already detected but you cannot escape the attack by running away as in a confined area, no exits are immediately available or you need to stay and protect a third party.

MOVING IN KNIFE SURVIVAL MODE

  1. Keep moving trying to keep the maximum distance to the attacker. Move slower so not to trigger escalated action using smaller, not feet-crossing steps so your ability to change direction and initiate action is not impeded.

  2. Do not move backwards, but in a zig-zag motion away so to be unpredictable as to your next location point.

  3. Elevate your shoulders high and drop your head so to protect your neck and throat area and place your elbows, forearms and palms together in front of your torso (as if you’re praying) to minimise access to your heart and vital frontal organs.

SURVIVING A KNIFE ATTACK TO HEAD / UPPER BODY

  1. If attacked; send both arms forward towards the attacker in an aggressive and striking hard manner, locking both arms at the elbow in a rigid way in just over 90° angle.

  2. The arm matching the knife arm strikes against attacker’s knife arm lower bicep area with your striking forearm just above the wrist of the other arm. Keep the wrist high and elbow low. The other arm strikes against their larynx or lower face and is held in a slightly more horizontal angle.

  3. Upon contact, keep running forward if possible to unbalance the attacker.

  4. As soon as you connect, keep the neck/face striking arm pressed towards the target, but as soon as possible as you run send the hand of the knife-stopping arm over and then under the armpit of the attacker, turning your upper body into them.

  5. Keep moving around the attacker, immediately release the close arm and create a rigid frame just over 90° by lifting it up.

  6. Deliver multiple outward arm strikes against the stem of the brain/top off spine area of attacker using this rigid frame. Move arm from shoulder (no forearm chopping motions from elbow) and use big movements to generate optional power. Continue until threat neutralised.

  7. You can alternate these strikes with other strikes with the close arm such as elbow strikes to face, open palm strikes to break nose, punches to larynx or claw strikes to eyes. Mix and match these in a rapid fashion.
