In UNLEASH THE WARRIOR, we show you how to optimise and train your self defence strikes, techniques or movements in five simple steps.
Use UNLEASH THE WARRIOR to be introduced to or practice your skills further.
This issue covers the OUTWARD ARM STRIKE (TO THE NECK).
Scenario: Deployed as a close or medium range in-fight solution, this simple and devastating action is designed to strike aggressively to the neck of the aggressor, using the entire length of the arm as a striking object, optimising chance to connect, compared to e.g. an outward hammer fist strike.
This response can be immediately followed up by other aggressive and offensive actions. (See our MASTERCLASS PRO for other striking combinations).
HOW TO DELIVER AN OUTWARD ARM STRIKE.
Keep hands up and in front of your face whenever in a potential conflict situation has arisen. In this case, the aggressor is on your side.
To strike, tense and lock your wrist (straight) and elbow (in a slightly more than 90° angle).
Using your shoulder, upper body and hip motion swing your entire locked arm outwards to strike. The further behind you the aggressor is, the more your body swings around, up to 180°.
Aim to connect on the neck, ideally targeting the carotid artery. You can connect with any part of the arm, but ideally with the bonier outside forearm area.
Recoil the striking arm immediately to the starting position upon impact for further strikes, or defences.
To get to know more detail, or how you can follow up with even more combinations and further effective and natural striking choices, check out our courses at Spartans Academy on: www.spartans-edu.org.
Further strikes are then available if needed. See our MASTERCLASSES and MASTERCLASS PRO for options.
